License

openxml-office is dual-licensed. You may use it under either of the following licenses β€” choose the one that fits your use case:

  1. GNU AGPL-3.0 (open source), or
  2. Commercial License β€” described below.

The project is distributed under the full text of the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0, included as the LICENSE file in the repository.

Under AGPL-3.0 you are free to use, study, modify, and distribute this software β€” including for commercial purposes β€” provided you comply with the license. The key obligations of AGPL-3.0 are:

  • If you distribute the software or a derivative work, you must make the complete corresponding source code available under AGPL-3.0.
  • If you run a modified version to provide a service over a network (e.g. a SaaS or hosted application), you must offer the source code of your modified version to the users of that service.

AGPL-3.0 does not prohibit commercial use. It only requires that derivative and network-served works remain open under the same license.

2. Commercial License (for closed-source / proprietary use)

Section titled β€œ2. Commercial License (for closed-source / proprietary use)”

The AGPL-3.0 copyleft obligations are not suitable for every organization. If you want to use openxml-office in a closed-source product, proprietary SaaS, or internal tooling without releasing your source code under AGPL-3.0, a separate commercial license is available.

The commercial license grants the same software under terms that do not require you to open-source your work, plus:

  • A commercial-friendly license (MIT-style terms) for your organization.
  • Access to a private repository with packaged releases and updates.
  • Priority handling of issues and feature requests.

The commercial license is offered through GitHub Sponsors:

  1. Sponsor the project at the appropriate tier: github.com/sponsors/DraviaVemal
  2. Active sponsors are granted access to the private commercial repository and the commercial license terms.

πŸ’œ Sponsoring also directly funds ongoing development and maintenance β€” thank you!

Note: This dual-licensing model is offered by the copyright holder. AGPL-3.0 itself is the unmodified license in the repository LICENSE file; the commercial option is an alternative license, not an added restriction on AGPL-3.0.
